Texas House Bill 1481 Campus Campaign

As part of a district-wide initiative to support the implementation of Texas House Bill 1481, I was tasked with creating classroom flyers and informational handouts to educate students, parents, and staff about the new policy banning student use of personal communication devices during the school day. HB 1481, passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session, requires all public school districts and charter schools to adopt and enforce a written policy prohibiting the use of cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and other personal devices on school property from the first bell to dismissal.

To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, I designed all materials in both English and Spanish, addressing the diverse linguistic needs of our school community. These materials included:

  • Flyers for classroom walls explaining the policy and consequences for violations.

  • Parent handouts detailing the rationale behind HB 1481, exceptions for medical and educational accommodations, and guidance on how to support students at home.

  • Visual aids using icons and simplified language to make the content approachable for all age groups.

This campaign not only strengthened my skills in bilingual design and visual communication but also deepened my understanding of how graphic design can support public policy and community engagement in educational settings.
